Visit of World Bank Team
A 17 member delegation led by Mr. Michael Wong from the World Bank Office in Tanzania came to Anand to study the impact of the Amul model of cooperative dairy development and understand the process of replication in other parts of the world. The delegation comprised representatives from Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda apart from officials of the World Bank from Washington DC and New Delhi. The delegation has government officials, NGOs and cooperatives from Africa. During their stay they visited Amul Dairy, IRMA, a Village Dairy Co-operative Society, Amul Research and Development Association, Ode, Amul’s cattle feed plant at Kanjari and Mother Dairy, Gandhinagar amongst other institutions. They also met and interacted with Dr. V. Kurien the father of the White Revolution. After their arrival, they were briefed about the role played by Amul in shaping India’s cooperative dairy industry which enabled India to emerge as the largest milk producer in the world. They also held wide ranging discussions with Shri Parthibhai G. Bhatol, Chairman and Shri B. M. Vyas, Managing Director, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation.
